Bell's Mind

Well, this weekend another Western Electric 1AESS is going to be switched over to a DMS-100.

A bunch of people are interested in scanning it out before it dies. You can see their progress (hopefully they're submitting the numbers as they go of course!).

If you're interested in scanning as well you can start submitting numbers here and/or get in touch with the guys in charge.

On the other hand if you miss out on the fun I compiled a list of what I think are the rest of the 1AESS switches in the US. Scan those puppies out and show us what's up.

The Bell's Mind AIM bot is down thanks to certain people messaging the bot with garbage over and over again.

Once I've added code to watch for rate limiter errors and ban people that do things like this it'll be back up.

I just added a page that contains some more detailed stats relating to scanned numbers. As usual the NPAs listed on that page next to each state are bold and italic if they contain scanned numbers. Clicking on an NPA will link you to its info page. So far the page is in its infancy so be gentle when you send in comments about it.

Eventually I'd like to move all of the really technical stats in there, throw up some dynamic graphs, and try my hand at poor man's data mining. There is a LOT of cool information that is now sitting in the Bell's Mind DB and I just need to think of new ways to look at it. E-mail me if you think of any stats that would interest you or any type of graph that would help you visualize our dataset. I'm sure there's a lot that I haven't thought of yet.

Well, here it is. I finally settled on a super simple weblog package called nanoblogger.

From time to time I'll post site updates here as well as topics that are of interest to the phreaking community. Be sure to bookmark this page instead of the old main page.

All of the old links are on the right in the linkbox.

I just added "Business" and "Residence" number types. I'm eventually going to drop the "Normal" type since it is past its useful lifetime.

If you have time please go back and update anything you've submitted that you can reclassify. Soon I'll be adding pages that let you look through all the numbers you've submitted so you don't have to track them down by NPA/NXX. If you've got a lot of numbers you're probably better off waiting until then.

I'll also be going through when I have free time and reclassifying/cleaning up numbers on other people's accounts.

I'm expanding the show archive on the Bell's Mind PBX. Currently we have RFA and BinRev but we're looking for more.

Here's what were interested in:
- Consistency. We want to know you're going to keep releasing new episodes. It's a hassle for us to change menus and we'd rather not add and remove shows every week.
- A little assistance. When you release a new show we'd like to get e-mail about it. We might try to automate this with a webpage in the future but for now it's all manual.
- A simple numbering scheme. People have to be able to enter your show numbers on their touch-tone phone. If you currently have a difficult numbering scheme and are willing to renumber your shows for the archive that's cool too, just send us links to the renumbered episodes. Oh... and make sure episodes have leading zeroes (ie. episode 1 is something like "myshow01.mp3" or "myshow001.mp3").
- A link to our site on your page would be nice but it isn't a requirement.
