Some VoIP issues resolved

There have been some reports of poor call quality, FWD being broken, and some other random weirdness. As of today it appears that a lot of these issues have been fixed.

It turns out that all I needed to do was change my bandwidth setting to "high" in IAX.conf. I still disable some really bad codecs but I've re-enabled whatever was breaking FWD. VoIP providers like NuFone and VoicePulse can also now use better codecs.

That's all I've got right now. Enjoy the updated PBX!

Bandwidth

Ever wonder how much bandwidth the Bell's Mind PBX uses? Well, now is your chance to find out.

This graph is always current and shows data in 5 minute intervals. Right now it looks like it's a little higher than my provider's estimates but I think that's because they're averaging the data over longer periods of time and smoothing out the intermittent spikes.

It's very basic right now but, as usual, I have bigger plans for it. Lemme know what you think.

Asterisk news

From now on I'm going to put Asterisk news into the forums. This will allow discussion about different new features that come out rather than just a posting on my main page about it.

The first news item is up already (chan_bluetooth).

The news forum is set up so that I am the only one who can post new topics but everyone can reply. This way you can subscribe to that particular forum (get e-mail notifications when new topics are created) and the volume should be pretty low with a high signal to noise ratio.

Toll-free and GETS lookups fixed

I made a quick patch to the code to allow 800, 866, 877, and 700 number lookups work again. Now you can view any exchanges in those areacodes and not just receive a blank page. It's not very descriptive (if there are no scanned numbers there it's pretty useless) but at least it gives you an indication that the lookup worked.

Submit any bug reports to the forums

NuFone issues

For some reason NuFone is giving me big headaches today. I don't know if they're doing some kind of upgrade or what but I just can't get calls through from them anymore.

I'll post an update when the situation is resolved.

New conference features

Hey, hey... I finally did some much needed updates to the Bell's Mind conferences.

First, conferences no longer say "you are currently the only person in the conference". They now just announce the number of people in the conference (including you). If it says "one" then you're in there alone.

Second, I added a new user menu command to say the number of people currently in the conference. Hit star and then 0 while in the conf to check it out.

Lemme know what you think via e-mail and check out the code in the forums.

Bell's Mind bot back up

Well, the bot is back up on a limited basis. I promise that one of these days I'll actually get to fix it.

This last time it went down was due to the fact that I couldn't connect to the AIM servers. For some reason they just weren't responding. A few minutes ago though (after re-running the script many times) it finally connected. Enjoy, but don't beat it up.

PBX downtime

Tomorrow (Thursday, October 6th, 2004) the Bell's Mind PBX will be down for a few hours. My estimate is that the work will take place between noon and 4PM. If the outage is longer than that I'll be sure to post an update.

Fixed login issues

Last week the login code broke as I integrated my user database with FUDforum.

Yesterday I fixed it and it looks good again. Head over to the forums if it doesn't work for you.

Also, registration is done via the forums now. It's untested so hopefully someone will volunteer to be the guinea pig.

Forum registration is now turned back on

I just realized that the forums had registration disabled from when I was testing it.

It's all ready to go now. Go check it out.

Site updates

I've finished part of the update today from Bell's Mind v2. Some new cool features are on the way but as of right now we're sitting in a bit of a holding pattern. Logins don't work and therefore neither do number submissions. Also toll-free and non-geographic (700) lookups won't work. I'm working as fast as I can though.

New registrations, however, may work through our new forums. I've modified my Bell's Mind code to use FUD forum's user database. Please swing through the forums and throw me some feedback. If you had an account before your login details will be the same.

My forums are in no way meant as competition to my usual forums. This forum is specifically to talk about Bell's Mind stuff and that's it. There's not even an off-topic section.
